The Grown-Up Italian: Jay Luigi’s SoHo Flagship is Here, and It’s a Vibe
If you know the St. Pete location of Jay Luigi, you know it as that cute, fast-casual spot where you order at the counter and devour pizza in record time. It’s great, efficient, and delicious.
But the new Jay Luigi SoHo? She is the sophisticated older sister who drinks spritzes on the Amalfi Coast.
Located at 516 S Howard Ave (right in the thick of the action), this isn't just a copy-paste of the St. Pete concept. This is their first flagship store, and it marks a major shift: Full-Service Dining.
That’s right. No standing in line. No buzzer waiting to go off. You sit down, you get waited on, and you settle in.
Here is why the SoHo location is the new "It Girl" of Tampa Italian dining.
The Concept: "Italian, but make it lighter"
We all love a heavy bowl of fettuccine alfredo, but we don't love the nap we need immediately after. Jay Luigi SoHo is specifically designed to be a "healthier take on Italian favorites."
They aren't cutting corners; they are just being smarter about ingredients.
The Dough: They use house-made naturally fermented pizza dough. Why does this matter? Fermentation breaks down the gluten and sugars, making it lighter, airier, and—crucially—easier to digest. You don't leave feeling like a brick.
The Ingredients: Think locally grown veggies, grilled meats, and fresh pasta made in-house. It’s Italian food that fuels you rather than slowing you down.
The "Aperitivo" Culture
Since this is a full-service spot, the bar program is front and center. They focus on "lighter craft aperitif-type cocktails." Think less "sugary night-club drinks" and more "refreshing European spritzes." It fits perfectly with the humid Tampa weather. It’s sophisticated sipping designed to stimulate your appetite, not drown it.
The Schedule: When to Visit
Unlike the St. Pete spot, the hours here are tailored to the social SoHo crowd.
The "Golden Hour" (Happy Hour): Tuesday – Friday, 4 PM – 6 PM. This is the prime time to snag a table, order a spritz, and try some small plates before the dinner rush hits.
The Weekend Brunch: Saturday & Sunday, 11 AM – 3 PM. SoHo loves brunch, and Jay Luigi is throwing its hat in the ring. Expect breakfast pizzas and Italian-inspired morning plates.
Note the Monday Blues: They are CLOSED on Mondays. Don't show up hungry on a Monday night; you will be sad.
The Vibe: Community Over Everything
Despite the upgrade to full service and reservations, they kept the core motto: "We don't turn tables, we turn tables into community."
In a district like SoHo, which can sometimes feel rush-rush-rush, this philosophy is refreshing. They want you to gather round, share a pizza, split a bottle of wine, and actually talk to each other.
The Logistics
Address: 516 S Howard Ave, Tampa, FL 33606
Phone: 813-213-0100
Reservations: Yes! Since this is a full-service flagship, booking a table is highly recommended, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Verdict: Jay Luigi SoHo takes everything we loved about the original—the high-quality ingredients and modern aesthetic—and elevates it into a proper night out. It’s refined, it’s healthier, and it’s exactly what South Howard needed.
Buon appetito, Tampa!
